First Day Of School

today was our first day of school...judge if you want to, but our books didn't come in until friday, so i thought monday, september 14th would be a delightful day to start! :) we started off with a breakfast of coughfrozencough WAFFLES, and FRUIT KABOBS (sorry to disappoint erika and jackie, but i HAVE started adding wheat germ to my "just add water" pancake mix!) see how i BOLDED the fruit kabobs part so that would stand out a little more? and i am just being honest when i am deciding to tell you that the grapes on riley's kabob were just so that some might think i am giving him all kinds of fruit, even though he didn't eat it! he DID eat the apples and bananas. ok, that feels better.

anyways...i made a geography table...

which i love, so that when the boys finish their subject before the schedule says to go on to the next subject, they are allowed to go to the geography table and look through any of the really cool books there. there are also times when they can get into the craft drawer (oh darn it, here comes the honesty just bursting out of me again, it is currently filled with playstation controllers. sigh) and do a craft until the next subject starts. :)
the boys love their little desks, and they have worked out so perfectly. for those that don't know, the epping school was getting rid of them 2 years ago, so i got them for FREE! perfect.
don't they look so adorable sitting there?!

we followed the schedule perfectly. i should have taken a picture of it, but i forgot. the boys loved getting back into a schedule, and it was fun for me to have it too, i have to admit!
one of my favorite parts is doing our plants grown up studies.
this month we are studying "self control in manners" we are memorizing phil. 2:3-4 and today studied a chapter out of "for instruction in righteousness" on bad behavior. it gave examples of people in the Bible who had bad manners, and what happened to them because of it.
these books are amazing, and i would highly recommend them to anyone. they are very practical and totally Bible based.
then we had a mushroom specialist visit us (aka "nanny" - come on, how many grandmothers would do this?!? she is amazing)
she had taken the boys to the library last week to take out books on mushrooms. today they took a hike and found all kinds of them, and did an entire project on mushrooms, and fungi. wow...this will look amazing in their portfolio!

well, i then had them take a rest time...there IS a big game tonight, and we DO have priorities!!
overall, it was a great day. and i am constantly reminded of how fortunate i am to have a husband that allows me to stay home with my boys, and to have boys that i want to stay home with! they are growing up to be lovers of people, and lovers of GOD. i love them so much, and love spending time with them!

  5. Yea for the Doorposts books. We've used them for over 20 years. I think we're on our 3rd or 4th copy of Instructions in Righteousness, because I loan them out.
